Hazel thought of the past week as he flew.
He had tried to coax Araeya out of her tent to go on a patrol, but she had plainly refused, getting more and more annoyed, until today, when he'd asked her if she was mad at him. She had sighed, then came with him. No answer.
He snapped out of his daydream when Araeya banked suddenly to the right, diving. He followed.
When she landed, she morphed back to human and glared at the place where a flareback had been just a moment before.
Hazel looked at her, trying to breech her protective mind-guard to see what was wrong.
She saw him. "What?" she snapped.
Hazel continued staring at her, then asked quietly, "What's wrong?"
"Who said anything's wrong?"
"Araeya, I know you well enough to know when something's mad. I'd be able to tell what if you didn't have a wall around your mind."
At that she sighed, then turned to the nearest tree. Hazel saw a tear in the corner of her eye.
He stepped a bit closer to her, and pushed his snout against her shouder. She gripped his head in her arms, letting the tears fall freely.
"It's just that...I vowed to love Will forever. And only Will. But I don't. I still love him, but not only him." She paused, and looked at Hazel. "I love you."
There was a loud rumble and a ball of smoke erupted from Hazel. When it cleared, there stood a boy with raven black hair and striking blue eyes.
Araeya gaped, then glared.
"I can explain." said the boy.
"Well, start talking!" growled Araeya.
(Summary: Hazel was cursed by a so-called-girlfriend to be a dragon forever until he could get a HUMAN, girl to love him, and admit it.)
The boy ended. He morphed into a merchandizer and started pacing.
Araeya narrowed her eyes, but then realized that it was because he looked like he was gonna cry. She sighed. "Come here." she said and hed out her arms.
He looked hesitant, then approached cautiously, a bit afraid.
When he was near enough, she grabbed him by the scruff and half-dragged him into her lap, where she started lightly stroking his head. "Why didn't you tell me?" she asked.
"I was afraid you'd think I was using you."
"You were."
"But I still love you! Truly! I swear!"
She smiled softly. "I know. But you didn't at first."
At that he couldn't reply.
